Delegation

Delegation is giving a job to someone, defining the parameters for accomplishing the job, and giving the person the authority to get the job done.

Delegation can reduce volunteer burnout and is an important process in succession planning and volunteer development.

Steps for Delegation:

  1. Define the task. Cleary define what needs to be done and write it down.
  2. Define the outcomes and results clearly and write it down.
  3. Select the right person or team for the task. Consider if the person has the time and ability to do the job. Its also important to consider what they can gain from the experience.
  4. Explain the reason for the selection and expectations of the job to who you have selected. Check they have understood all information.
  5. Offer support, communicate openly, and help where need be.
  6. Recognise and reward the individual for their contribution.

Delegation allows you to make the best use of your time and skills, and it helps other others in the club grow and develop to ensure the club continues to operate effectively.
