Water Polo Australia’s marquee event, the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships (AYWPC), will return to Perth in 2025 from April 14-24, thanks to a partnership with the Western Australian Government, through Tourism Western Australia.

Since its inception five years ago, the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships has grown to become a true festival of water polo for teams in the 12&U, 14&U, 16&U and 18&U age groups.

The event will return to Perth for a second time since the successful staging in 2023, with more than 2,500 participants expected to take part.

Following the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Ord Minnett Aussie Sharks and Aussie Stingers are also expected to join the fun in Perth again in 2025 for the annual Test Match Series.

Water Polo Australia CEO Tim Welsford said the organisation is thrilled to be returning to Western Australia over new dates that will make the event more accessible to many in the Australian water polo community.

“Water Polo Australia is delighted to once again be partnering with the WA Government to bring the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships back to the west coast of Australia,” he said.

“The last Perth edition of the event was a great success, and we cannot wait to bring our community together again in the west.

“We’re also excited to be hosting the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships on new dates in 2025, from April 14-24.  These new dates have been chosen to better align our national calendar, and will also better support our pathways programs, as well as State and Club calendars.

“The Australian Youth Water Polo Championships is always a highlight for Water Polo Australia, and we look forward to 2025 with anticipation,” he said.

WA Deputy Premier and Minister for Tourism, the Hon. Rita Saffioti MLA said it is great to be hosting the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships in Perth again in 2025.

“Mass participation events form an important part of our overarching tourism strategy, giving people a time-specific reason to visit WA and experience all we have to offer.

“The results from the 2023 event were really impressive, with a $23 million boost for our economy plus 6,000 people visitors from outside WA, which supports local businesses and jobs.

“We’re excited to again be supporting the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships in Perth for 2025, and encourage athletes and spectators to use this as an opportunity to stay longer and spend some time exploring Perth or venturing out into WA’s regions.”
