WATER POLO AUSTRALIA ANNOUNCES AUSTRALIAN TEAM FOR FINA YOUTH MEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Published Tue 14 Jun 2022

Water Polo Australia has today announced the 13-strong Australian team for the upcoming FINA Youth Men’s World Championships, set to be held in Belgrade, Serbia from 11-19 August 2022.

The team will have an opportunity to train in and with the Montenegro and Serbia Youth Men’s teams, before travelling to Belgrade for the Youth Men’s World Championships.

Youth Men’s Head Coach John Fox said as a player himself, international tours were always the highlight, and he looks forward to helping to provide those same opportunities to the next generation.

“The opportunity to play internationally is extremely important in the development of our next generation of players,” Fox said.

“It has been three years since any Australian underage teams have played internationally and many of these players will be stepping up to the senior ranks in the lead up to the Paris 2024, Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

“Every member of this team will be making their debut for Australia, but in saying that the balance and depth in this squad is excellent, and it was very difficult to choose a touring 15, let alone narrow that down to 13 for the World Championships.

“I'd like to congratulate the athletes on their selection but also encourage those that missed out to keep playing as there will be plenty more opportunities in the future,” he said.
