Aussie Men’s Juniors learning from best in Europe

Two Australian junior men’s water polo players, Nic Porter (Queensland) and Lachlan Vos (Western Australia) recently spent time in Croatia training and learning from some of the best water polo players in the world.

Training with JUG Dubroovnik, four time European Champions and winner of the Champions League in 2016, silver medalists in 2017 - both junior players were invited into the inner sanctum to learn from the coaches and players themselves.

Porter, who is a goal keeper, had the ability to work with Olympian Marko Bijac, who was named the best goal keeper in the world at the Rio Olympic Games.

The young Queenslander spent an intensive two-week training with the Club, while Vos will have the opportunity to spend three months at the team's base.

Aussie Sharks Head Coach, Elvis Fatovic, knows first hand the value both players would have got from the experience, given he played and coached JUG for many years.

“JUG Dubrovnik is well known across the world having won many of the most prestigious international club water polo tournaments.

“The opportunity for Nic and Lachlan to train at a world-class facilities and learn from top full-time international players will only help in their player development.

“Coach Vjekoslav Kobescak is also regarded as one of the best international Coaches, so for them to experience a different coaching style and gain insights from an experienced coach such as Kobescak will benefit both players.

“Having the chance for our junior players to experience the international water polo environment but then return home to their domestic clubs and national team duties, is an area of the competitor pathway Water Polo Australia is keen to support,” said Fatovic.
