First feature game of AWL on OVO tonight - Qld Thunder vs ACU Cronulla Sharks

Published Sat 25 Jan 2020

Round one of the OVO Australian Waterpolo League is underway with the first OVO Play round to feature the Queensland Thunder and ACU Cronulla Sharks.

It’s fitting to have the first featured round including the Queenslanders as round one also marks the Cole Miller to honour the young Queensland water polo player. Teams will be retiring the number 10 cap in honour of Cole’s memory.

The Queensland Thunder women’s team come into 2020 as the defending champions, but triple Olympian Bronwen Knox says it’s a new look side this season.

“I think we surprised a few people last year, but we’ve got a younger team this year. The focus for us is just around getting better and improving each game,” said Knox.

“We’ve had a bit of a disjointed preparation. January has been really busy for us Aussie Stingers girls and having some of our younger players involved in the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships as well so I think we’re just looking forward to all being back together for the first time in a while come tonight.

“Cronulla have got a couple of really good players, so we’ll just be looking to feel them out and see what they’ve got in their arsenal.

“But we’re expecting them to come out hard early, so we’ve got to be prepared for that,” she said.

Hosting round one, the Cole Miller round, is something Knox said will be very special for everyone in Brisbane.

“The Cole Miller round is a special round for us, it holds special significance for everyone at the club.

“It’s all about coming together as a club and a community, and to be able to do that in Brisbane tomorrow, and play in front of a home crowd is going to be super special,” she said.

The Queensland Thunder-ACU Cronulla Sharks featured games will be live stream on www.play.ovo.com.au or can be watched via the OVO Play APP from 6:30pm AEST.
