National Education Framework and Curriculum released

Water Polo Australia (WPA) together with the State Associations, is pleased to unveil six new online education courses for coaches and officials through The LearningPool.

Launched in 2017, The LearningPool supports the water polo community, with these new courses targeted at local water polo coaches and officials to upskill anywhere and anytime.

Designed to assist player development and club growth at all levels, The LearningPool is Water Polo Australia’s one-stop-shop for coaches and officials – whether they are currently involved in the sport or have been involved previously.

New courses being released include:

  • Development Coach Accreditation
  • Advanced Coach Accreditation
  • Development Referee Accreditation
  • Advanced Referee Accreditation
  • Presenter/Assessor Specialisation Certificate
  • Technical Delegate Certificate

The new online courses were developed after WPA and the State Associations recognised that the past course material was out-of-date and there was a lack of re-accreditation options available.

Additionally, at all levels of the game, it was widely acknowledged that there is a need to grow the number of quality trained coaches and officials within the water polo ranks.

Coaches and officials who may have existing or past accreditation should also register their details via the WPA website for Recognition of Prior Training in the new system – that way they’ll be recognised in the official accreditation system but won’t have to go through full education process to be acknowledged.

Water polo events from January 2019 onwards, including the inaugural Australian Youth Water Polo Championships, may require all coaches, referees and table officials to hold an accreditation allowing them on pool-deck.

In a four-month transition phase into the new education framework, introductory pricing will apply until January 2019. At this point course fees will be increased and recognition of prior training or any older accreditations will not be considered.
