Olympian Roach back from injury for OVO Australian Waterpolo League

Current Aussie Sharks and ACU Cronulla player Aidan ‘AJ’ Roach is back in the pool after recovering from surgery in October 2016.

The 27 year old began playing water polo at the age of nine for Drummoyne Devils and returns to the OVO Australian Waterpolo League with the ACU Cronulla

“The change has started well so far, the new club has been pretty good and personally I am looking to contribute more than I currently am.

“Within the team we are focusing on finding centre forward, playing our systems, and as we go deeper into the season making sure we execute well,” he said.

Roach has been adjusting to differences between European and Australian water polo leagues.

“It’s really good to be back in Australia playing water polo with friends,” he said.

He admits it is hard to pick an outright favourite to win the men’s OVO Australian Waterpolo League, but suggested Fremantle Mariners have started well so will be a team to watch.

Roach is a two time Olympian and was part of the Aussie Sharks camp in Sydney early this week.

He will look forward to getting back in camp when the Aussie Sharks take on USA in a two match test series on the sunshine coast in late March. Roach will play with his ACU Cronulla Sharks team mates this Sunday against Sydney University Lions after the women’s match at Peter Montgomery Pool from 3:15pm AEDT.
