Tickets have today been released for the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships, Australian Water Polo League and the Aussie Stingers & KAP7 Aussie Sharks exhibition matches,in Brisbane, in what will be the largest festival of water polo in Australia.

Australia’s top Olympic water polo athletes combined with more than 2,000 junior water polo players will descend on Brisbane for three weeks of non-stop water polo action as part of the Australian Waterpolo League and Australian Youth Water Polo Championships.

Kicking off from 31 March 2021 with the Australian Waterpolo League (AWL), Brisbane will host the top 10 clubs for the elite series that will feature the country’s leading Olympic water polo players, out to impress selectors ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The Australian Youth Water Polo Championships (AYWPC) returns to the Queensland capital city for its third consecutive year and will feature thousands of junior athletes aged 12 to 18 years old over two weeks, the largest water polo event in the southern hemisphere.

As part of the AYWPC, the Aussie Stingers & KAP7 Aussie Sharks will compete in the Australia Green vs Gold Exhibition, as the build up to the Tokyo Olympic Games continues to intensify with just under 130 days to go.

Water Polo Australia CEO Richard McInnes, said never before have the two events been held back to back, providing a unique opportunity for water polo and sports fans alike.

“Water Polo fans have so much to be excited for with our two marquee events the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships and the Australian Waterpolo League coming to Brisbane in what will be a sensational three weeks of non-stop competition.

“Not only will we see our top Australian Waterpolo League teams in action including our current Olympic squad members, but we could very well be watching junior players at our AYWPC who could go on to represent their country at a potential home Olympics in Queensland in 2032 - wouldn’t that be special,” he said.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said live sports thrived in Brisbane and the city was looking forward to diving into one standout water polo event after another.

“While it’s now the third year the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships will be hosted in Brisbane, the addition of the Australian Water Polo League will create even more excitement and a festival vibe in the heart of our city across three whole weeks,” Cr Schrinner said.

“Brisbane has a strong focus on hosting major sporting events, they shine a spotlight on our city, draw interstate visitors, fill hotel rooms and boost the hospitality, retail and service industries.

“In particular, hosting the showpiece Australia Water Polo League will further prove our capabilities of hosting world-class sporting events and help prepare for the chance to host the 2032 Olympics.”

The Australian Youth Water Polo Championships are supported by the Queensland Government via Tourism and Events Queensland and feature on the It’s Live! in Queensland events calendar.
