Welcome Message from Minister for Sport, Steve Dimopoulos

Minister for Sport, Steve Dimopoulos<br />

On behalf of the Victorian Government, I’d like to welcome you to the 2026 Water Polo National State Championships at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC).

The National State Championships are one of the most prestigious competitions for young water polo players in Australia.

With the best young athletes from each state showcasing their skill and determination, it’s sure to be an unforgettable championship of fierce competition.

These championships also provide an important talent pathway for our future champions, and we’re proud to support them through our Significant Sporting Events Program, which assists organisations deliver national, international, or regionally significant sporting events.
Since 2010 the Program has secured over 1200 events with more than half held in regional Victoria, boosting local jobs and economies, and showcasing our regions.

32 teams from across the country will compete, with more than 480 athletes expected to battle it out for glory at the iconic Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) and other state-of-the-art facilities across Melbourne’s beautiful eastern suburbs.

Thank you to Water Polo Australia, Water Polo Victoria, MSAC, Mentone Girls Grammar, Caulfield Grammar, Camberwell Grammar and Xavier College, event organisers, volunteers and all of those who have worked hard to deliver the 2026 championship.

For visitors to our wonderful state, I encourage you to also explore all Melbourne has to offer, and I wish you all the best for your time in our city.

And to our young athletes – best of luck!
