NATIONAL STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS UPDATE

Water Polo Australia wishes to provide an update on the National State Championships, effective from the 2024-25 season.

Following the 2023-24 season, Water Polo Australia together with the State Associations reviewed the delivery of the National State Championships, inline with the overall national competition calendar and pathways programs.

As a result of stakeholder consultation, the State Associations and Water Polo Australia have agreed to change the delivery of the National State Championships, commencing in the 2024-2025 season.

The 15&U and 17&U Men’s and Women’s National State Championships will be held at the same time, in the same venue, slated for 26-30 September 2024 on the Gold Coast.

The 19&U National State Championships will transition to a talent identification camp, with further details as well as dates and venues to be released in the near future.

Water Polo Australia CEO Tim Welsford said: “The National State Championships is a performance competition, where our athletes come together to represent their states, and doubles as a selection event for our National Age Group Program Squads.

“These changes to the delivery of the National State Championships are designed to ensure that all levels of our sport are working together and players have the greatest opportunity to represent their Club, State and potentially Australia.

“I’d like to thank the State Associations for their support throughout this process, and look forward to continuing to work together towards the 2024-25 season,” he said.

Water Polo Australia will also announce new dates for the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships for 2025, to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
