2020 KAP7 AYWPC | Day 2 Wrap

Published Sun 12 Jan 2020

Teams returned to pools across Brisbane day two of the 2020 KAP7 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships.

The 14&U and 18&U age divisions are relishing the national competitions, setting the tone for what is expected to be a great two week festival of water polo.

Today’s matches delivered some thrilling performances, as the 14&U Girls and 18&U boys and girls teams were desperate to give it their all, with only one game left in the pool stages before cross over matches start tomorrow afternoon.

The 14&U Boys still have a couple of games to decide who they’ll face in the cross over matches.

Brisbane Girls Grammar School 14&U Girls player Caitlin Small said the team are making the most of the time they spend together.

“We’ve had some really good games, but I think what pulls us through is teamwork and how we all get together,” Small said.

“I really like the team based aspect of water polo and that we all get to work together to get as far as we can throughout the competition,” she said.

“We’re really enjoying it and everyone is having a ball.”

Sydney Uni Lions 14&U Boys player Ashton Brown said that his team are enjoying getting to work on their skills in every game.

“It’s a really good bonding experience for the boys and it’s good practice to develop our skills,” Brown said.

“We’ve done pretty well - I’m happy with my teams’ performance. We just had our third game and our third win, but most of all I like being in the water and being with my friends,” he said.

There are four days left of competition in week one, before the 12&U and 16&U teams arrive in Brisbane to compete in week two.
