The Aussie Stingers has shown their genuine contenders come the Tokyo Olympic Games, after defeating reigning Olympic champions USA 10-9 in the second test in Brisbane.

The Aussie Stingers have ended the USA winning streak of 69 games in a row, producing a sensational second half to wow the home crowd in the dying seconds.

With less than 30 seconds on the clock Aussie Stingers Captain Rowie Webster converted a penalty goal to put her side ahead by one.

A quality USA opposition called a time out to make their final play, enforcing the new rules by bringing in goalkeeper Ashleigh Johnson into field to make it a seven on six contest. But the play didn’t go the USA’s way and time was out, giving the Aussie fans much to cheer about.

The win makes it one all in three match test series which will now see both the Australian Women and Men look to take out the AUS v USA Test Series come Saturday night at Brisbane Aquatic Centre.

Captain Rowie Webster said it was a hard fought contest and took everything in the tank to get across the line.

“It was gruelling, it went four quarters. They're the best side in the world with 69 wins on the trot so to come away with the win, I'm pretty proud of that. It was in our own country so that was brilliant,” said Webster.

“But we've definitely got a lot to improve on and I'm sure that they'll come out firing for the third test match and the decider.

“We're playing 4-6 quarters on our days off so no team is fresh but I think in front of a crowd like this you've just got to keep battling on.

“They've got great arsenal… I say it time and time again their centres are brilliant, they're centre backs are good, they've got great outside shooters so you have to mix up you defence and keep moving in attack and I think that was the decider - we just kept moving and we drew a penalty in the last attack,” she said.
