Water Polo Australia is pleased to announce plans for the next stage of the Pathway to Paris camps.

In March, 18 athletes who had been identified as prospects for the 2024 Paris Olympic cycle, in the women’s program, joined the Aussie Stingers on the Sunshine Coast for a week-long camp.

The next stage of the Pathway to Paris camps will see 25 athletes selected to attend a camp at the Australian Institute of Sport, before heading to New Zealand to train and play against the New Zealand national team.

WPA General Manager Performance Charles Turner said these camps are crucial in the build up to Paris.

“We’re in a unique situation where the next Olympic cycle is only three years, due to the postponed Tokyo Games,” Turner said.

“Having opportunities like this to see the next generation training and playing in a high performance environment will be a great test of their skills.

“Following on from the camp at the AIS, 15 atheltes will travel to New Zealand, another opportunity for them to showcase their talent on the world stage,” he said.

Squads for the AIS camp will be announced at the end of June.

Pathway to Paris squads are not fixed, and players will have the opportunity to be identified to come into the squad at any stage.
